So, the new Percy Jackson and the Olympians book has been released. And it was awesome! Beware, there are many spoilers here, so be warned!
First Off, a recap. We last see Percy and Annabeth fall down to Tartarus and Percy telling Nico that he must get them to House of Hades, which houses the Doors of Death. Easy said, right?
So now the book has been divided into two major prospectives, alternating until they reunite. The first in Pecry and Annabeth, following their journey into Tartarus and finding the Doors of Death on their side. The second perspective is Leo, Jason, Frank, Nico, Hazel, Piper, and Coach Hedge aboard the Argo II, following their journey to get from Rome to the House of Hades, where the Doors of Death are in the mortal world.
Honestly, I like the Argo II's perspective more, since a lot of character developments has happened there. Sure, Percy and Annabeth learned a lot about about ancient mythology, but the only character development was
Percy forgot the people who helped him along the way. And Annabeth loses her Celestian Bronze dagger, but it was replaced with a drakon's tooth blade. And Iapetus/Bob(the Titan who's memory was wiped out because of the River Lethe due to Percy) helped them. Percy forgot about him, but Nico was nice to Bob and told him Percy was a friend. Isn't Nico nice?
So it really sucks, meanwhile on the Argo II character development was abound! Frank, Piper, Hazel, Leo, and Nico has made some shocking character changes. Here's the list:
Frank had a serious growth spurt, going from chubby to football player. And he became Praetor due to Jason relinquising command.
Piper suddenly wants to learn swordplay and requests Hazel as a tutor. So hooray for Piper being not so useless anymore. She has charmspeak, though, but it was seriously limited!
Nico is gay. He has a crush on Percy. No wonder that kid lives on his own. In the 1940s, being gay was bad, so bad! and he's out of time, and a son of Hades. Talk about a triple threat on being a loner. Jason tries to help him out, though
Hazel is a pretty powerful witch, apparently, owing to his mother being a witch. She learned to manipulate the Mist like it was his baby brother!
Nico fell in love. With Calypso, the same Calypso Percy helped way back. And the funny part? She loves her too. But nobody can return to Ogygia if they left the place, but he was needed on Argo II, and he has to help his friends. But he promised to return to her. He swore on the River Styx. Talk about serious.
So there. Another book done, and I will wait for the last book next year. This book is worth a read, a lot of things happened, and a lot more to watch out for.
